About the Artist

Richard Wardle has been making original prints since 1978 after graduating in illustration at Harrow School of Art. He makes his screen prints by hand as developments of watercolour studies and each print may involve up to 40 overlays of semi-transparent ink that he pulls through a silk-screen onto paper using a rubber blade called a squeegee. Each printed layer of ink is controlled by a stencil that Richard paints by hand onto the screen using a blue filler. Each stencil is washed off the screen to make the next one in its place, so these prints are strictly limited editions, impossible to reprint. |
