Mark was born in the North East of England and spent his childhood by the sea and in the country where he became interested in the sights of the land and the sea, which in some way is depicted in most of his painting.

His love of painting took him to the Lake District and from then on to Brighton University. It was in Brighton that he was inspired by the colours and shapes of the sea. After three years he graduated with a B.A (Hons) degree in Painting and was awarded the Sussex Painting prize. After leaving university, Mark left Brighton for two years to travel, live and paint in Greece, Barcelona and Andalucia, taking in more sights before returning to his present studio in Brighton.

'Landscape with seasonal change and weather movement around me offers tremendous inspiration. The trick is to stay out as long as possible walking sketching and absorbing the colour light scale space and mood. When I am painting I rediscover these senses.'
