Carol Bodendieck Chapman was born in Missouri in 1936. She lives and maintains her studio in Carmel California.

A Cum laude graduate from Smith College Northampton Massachusetts, she received her art education from the Kansas City Art Institute and The Art Student's League New York City. She continued her studies while living in Europe for three years where her lifelong affair with impressionism deepened.

While strongly influenced by Renoir, Matisse and Hockney, impressionism is prevalent in the artist's oil portraits and romantic watercolours and is infused in her strong graphics through use of the lyrical line. Chapman's work because of her excellent understanding and use of light and space translates well into multiple editions.
